This is the longest run I have had with a pair of sticks, especially since I play everyday. It’s because I have a pair of Ahead alloy sticks. They have an alloy core with plastic sleeves. After a year and a half the sleeves are pretty worn out but still work and I have to make sure I tighten the replaceable tips or the fall off but they still work. I am about to buy replacements soon. They are very balanced sticks and have less vibration on the hands. i love them.
The Shatterbrains and The Bittersoundfase will not be at The Oakgrove Tavern on Feb. 19th . The venue has been changed to : Carefree Bar and Grill 10209 SE Division St Portland 8:30 pm.
My favorite Drummer of all time Steve Smith will be up in Seattle at Jazz Alley March 8-9, With his band Vital Information. I remember back in the 80’s when I first heard Vital Information. I am a big fan. I think I played Their album on cassette tape everyday until it broke. I really enjoyed their music. I have since watched Steve in some of his educational videos. Incredible drummer and always cutting edge.
This is a great beat . I love the groove . It sounds simple , but it’s difficult to learn. It’s a 3 over 4 polyrhythm pattern, doing a 3/16 feel on the open close high hat and a 4/4 rock groove underneath. Danny Carey is an amazing drummer and very creative an complex. Tool is a great band.
Mon Feb 7 At 6pm I plan on going out to Rhythm Trades in Portland to Check out an amazing drummer Gary Hobbs . He’s played with all kinds of great jazz acts and is a great drum educator. It’s Free!!!!

I ‘ve have been working on learning the shuffle John Bonham does on Fool in The Rain . It is an Awesome beat but not easy to play. It is also very similar to Bernard Purdie shuffle and Jeff Pocaros shuffle. I will continue to work on this beat .
I learned this technique from my teacher. It includes doing paradidles while maintaining a standard swing ride pattern and 2 and 4 on the high hat. It’s much harder to play than it looks . Still needs a little more refining.
I was hoping to go to The Funhaters show at the Brickhouse on saturday and sit in on Conga drums. But I may be rehearsing with the Shatterbrains. Hopefully we can get done early and I can head down to the show. If I dont make it , I still reccomend to anyone to go check out the show Loose Morals and The Funhaters rock!
